He shrugged a bit and sucked on the inside of his lip as he thought how best to answer. “It’s cultural. I’ve had wine with dinner since I was a boy, so growing up with it, I got a taste for it early. A-ha!” He pulled a bottle off the shelf to better examine the label. “A 1517 port, still young, but probably just as good. Load up, dear!” He handed her the bottle, then two more, and took four for himself.
“We’re going to drink all of this?” Ariel asked incredulously struggling to hold all of the bottles. She tucked one under her arm, then held the other two in her hands. She eyed the bottles in Miguel’s arms warily
Phillip watched her expressive face screw up with confusion as she tried to explain and couldn’t help but laugh. “That’s alright. What can I do for you… Ariel, wasn’t it?”
Ariel nodded, her tone becoming more serious. ”I came to warn you, actually.” She quickly explained about Ursula, about how she was back, and how she was sure her Aunt was looking for revenge.
“She’s already dropped hints that she has been watching me, and I know she’ll go after anyone who I’ve met, no matter how the brief the meeting was! I wanted to make sure you and Aurora knew and were all right,” she told him, running her fingers through her hair as her worry returned.
Phillip’s chocolate eyes opened with concern as she spoke, and he felt a grim determination clenching in his gut. “Thank you, Ariel,” he commented. “I’d hate for anything else to happen to my beloved.” And it was just like evil witches and wicked fairies to go after the lovely and pure of heart.
“I’m just glad I found you all right,” Ariel said, breathing a small sigh of relief. She hadn’t been too late. ”How is Aurora?”
Belle paused a moment before answering. “Besides the one I have now, I think there are one or two more. Why? Do you like them too?” She moved to one of the shelves and tried to find them from memory. It had been a while since she’d seen them. “I’m absolutely fascinated by mermaids. When I was a little girl, there was a fisherman who came to town once a year and told stories about mermaids. He believed they were real. I did too because they explained their world so vividly. He never told me how he knew, though, so Papa told me not to believe him. I still did though.” The fisherman stopped coming years ago, so she assumed that he was dead.
“You could say that,” Ariel said slyly. She listened attentively as Belle explained about the fisherman, wondering what mermaid he could have met. ”Not a lot of people believe in mermaids,” she commented, still glancing at book titles. ”I’m glad that you do though.”

So I went on my very first Disneyland Dapper Day trip on Sunday. I didn’t do so well on my midterm the next day, but I sure as hell made a great memory with friends. I also got a chance to catch World of Color again. I really love the Little Mermaid bit. I’m always looking for it when I watch World of Color (even though I’ve only seen it 3 times…). Which leads us to today. I suddenly had the urge to draw flowing hair and somehow Ariel was the first character that came to mind. So here’s Ariel with her hair dancing along to the ocean’s current.
ps. this is the first art that I colored that I’m very proud of. I’m usually unsatisfied with how my colored art turns out, but I’m diggin’ it this time haha :D
